Terrington Burchett Ltd
Bridal Gown Cleaning & Preservation Agreement
Thank you for entrusting us with your gown. Each piece we receive is treated with the utmost care, respect, and specialist expertise.
Before we begin, we kindly ask that you read and confirm your acceptance of the following terms:
Our Approach
Your gown will be individually assessed and treated by our specialist team using couture level hand cleaning techniques.
We work patiently and meticulously, processing each gown as many times as required to achieve the finest possible result, while always protecting the integrity of the fabric.
Our process gently removes impurities such as oils, perspiration, and surface soiling that, over time, can compromise the fabric. However, due to the delicate and often complex nature of bridal textiles, some marks may not be fully removable. Where this is the case, they will be carefully stabilised to prevent further change.
The Nature of Bridal Fabrics
Bridal gowns are, by their very nature, delicate. Many are constructed from fine fibres, intricate lacework, and layered materials that may, over time, develop unseen sensitivities.
During the cleaning process, this may occasionally reveal:
- Subtle weaknesses within the fabric
- Areas of wear that were previously concealed
- Fine pulls, abrasions, or small holes
While every precaution is taken, such occurrences are considered part of the natural behaviour of delicate textiles, rather than the result of the cleaning process.
Embellishment & Detail
We treat every bead, crystal, and thread with the utmost care and precision.
However, due to the intricate construction of many gowns, there may be rare occasions where embellishments loosen or become displaced. Wherever possible, we will sensitively restore these details in keeping with the original design.
A Note on Time & Materials
Many embellishments incorporate materials such as:
- Metal clasps and crystal settings
- Sequins, beads, and synthetic trims
While your gown will be beautifully protected within our preservation packaging, it is important to understand that fabric and non-fabric elements age differently.
Over time:
- Metal components may naturally tarnish through exposure to air
- Certain trims may soften, discolour, or become more fragile
These changes are an inherent characteristic of the materials themselves and cannot be entirely prevented, even under the most careful preservation conditions.
Glued Elements
Where embellishments have been applied using adhesives rather than stitching, their longevity cannot always be assured through the cleaning process.
Pre-Wedding Preparation
For gowns being prepared ahead of a wedding, we recommend cleaning prior to any alterations. On very rare occasions, some fabrics may relax slightly following treatment.
Inspection & Approval
Upon arrival, your gown will undergo a detailed inspection, and a report will be shared with you.
We kindly ask for your approval before we proceed. If we do not hear from you within:
- 7 working days (standard service), or
- 24 hours (priority/pre-wedding service)
we will continue with your order as outlined, ensuring no unnecessary delay to your gown’s care.
Should You Wish to Cancel
If you decide not to proceed following your inspection report, a £30 handling and return fee will apply.
Your Gown, After Care
Our aim is always to return your gown looking beautifully refreshed and preserved. However, particularly for pre-loved or sample gowns, it may not be possible to restore a “brand new” appearance.
If you have any concerns upon return, please contact us within 48 hours, and we will be pleased to assist.
Collection & Delivery
We offer a seamless, fully managed collection and delivery service across mainland UK.
To ensure your gown is protected in transit:
- Items must be packed within the provided packaging
- Couriers will make two collection attempts
Once your gown is ready, we will be in touch to arrange a suitable delivery date.
Peace of Mind
In the unlikely event of loss or damage, we follow the Textile Services Association Fair Compensation Guidelines, ensuring a fair and considered resolution reflective of your gown’s age, condition, and declared value.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
Agreement
By proceeding with your booking, you confirm that:
- You have read and understood these terms
- You accept the inherent risks associated with cleaning delicate garments
- You agree to the processes and limitations outlined above
